Gear box oil filler plug

I thought it was (overdue) time to check the fluid level in the Jube's gearbox. Checking the trusted Haynes manual I see it is located on the side of the gearbox. All fine so far. Now..... Can I undo the damn bolt. Nope. WD40, ring spanner, socket none can shift it.

Anyone had the same issue and able to offer any words of wisdom???

They seem to be on a taper thread, suggest an AF socket with a longer or an extended tommy bar or similar and something of a work out whilst lying on your back under a ton of steel suitably jacked up!?

Someone obviously did not want the plug to fall out on the road!

Chris

Dont forget that its a steel. Plug into an ali casting and that if it hasn't been undone in a while it will have glued itselt. A long bar and good fitting socket should do it but it also might help if the gearbox is up to temperature.

If it ain't broken don't try to fix it as if you do it will definitely break

thanks chaps - i'll let you know how I get on at the weekend. On a roll though I've fixed my non working fuel gauge:)

Adrian;

Still got my rented out garage in Gillingham with a pit to help if needed

Cheers Pete = I may take you upon that when work quietens down!

I've got a set of sump plug sockets that will help. That and a bit of heat will help. Usually doing it when the gearbox is hot helps get it out easier as well.

plus a nice long bar foe leverage 😉
