Group Buy-Electronic distributor kits

Quote from Colin on 4th October 2010, 3:20 pmAs promissed I have looked into suppliers for the above and have come up with the following club special offer. This particular offer comes from http://www.simonbbc.com/
Even if you can't fit one yourself you'll save a small fortune over what your local garage would charge for one-just pay their labour charge instead.
Please note that this will be an ongoing GB so as soon as we have five interestred parties the goods will be ordered up and supplied and the next GB will automatically commence.
This group buy offers you a complete brand new electronic (no more replacing/setting up fiddly points) replacement package for your ignition system. Each kit includes a brand new distributor, a brand new vacuum advance unit, brand new powermax rotor arm and brand new 12V coil. The distributors look exactly virtually the same as the original Lucas item and you can even fit an original Lucas spark plug cap if you wish to it.
Please note that your existing ballast resisted coil MUST be replaced with a 12v version (this will require a small modification to the existing wiring loom) as the electronics in the distributor will otherwise over heat and this will most likely lead to premature failure aswell as invalidating your warranty
Two year unlimited mileage guarantee
There are two offers available but so long as five distributors are ordered at the same time then we can mix and match.

I think it may be an idea for me to get one of these having just beaten the cr*p out of the original with a hammer and chisel.
Sorry just read that back - I was meaning to say that I had persuaded it gently with love and tenderness that the most useful thing it could do was to turn in the block in order to allow correct timing of the engine.
Just a standard one should suffice I think. 😀

Quote from Nellie on 4th October 2010, 6:02 pmHi Colin,
I'd like the Kit 002 version and a set of silicon HT leads please.
Also, to quote from the other, previous thread about these:

Just had this back from simonbbcIf anyone is worried about the 12v supply don't be as I can make up an extra plug and play (correct colour coded) loom without the need of removing the ballast resistor from your looms-thus leaving them standard and the dizzy easily reversable should you require to change back-
Hello Colin
The units we use are now reproduction units but are rebuilt by our Ex Lucas engineers to a very high standard (comes with two year warranty too)
We can work a price for multiple orders and return customers.. please see our website for more information. The ballast will need either removing or bypassing as the modules require 12 volts constant to function correctly.
I hope this helps
Simon

Is it youself or Simon offering to make up the ballast bypass? Either way, could I order / ask for one of these also?
Cheers

It is I who will make up the bypass wire (if required) as Simon bbc doesn't although he would be interested in some-I'm only doing these for members though as it is time consuming. I'll be using the correct colour coded wiring and a sheath so will be a neat and simple job to do.
List so far
Ken- 1 x kit 001
Nellie 1 x kit 002 + leads + conversion wire.

I would be interested in one for Tatty provided it is a DIY fix that I could do myself.
Problem for me is that I will not be back in the UK after this weekend till early November.
I have new HT leads and a nearly new coil but am not sure what Kit to go for.
I would prefer not to mess with the wiring so the ballast bypass etc may be the way to go for me.
What would you suggest?
Cheers
Keith

Quote from Colin on 7th October 2010, 10:10 pmHi Keith
the hardest part of fitting is getting the old one out (as they can seize in) but other than making sure that the timing is right it is very straight forward.- if I still had an 1800 I'd photograph the procedure.
Just to be clear the electronic distributor must have a 12v supply so thus a 12v coil must be fitted. This obviously requires a new 12v power supply (via the blallast bypass wire) which is purely plug and play.
As far as which kit is concerened it's totally up to you. Either will be a considerable improvement on an old points distributor. Is your engine pretty standard?
Don't worry about being away as we still need another two kits (provided you go for one) to make up the 5 needed but if it does become a problem I'll get one for you and you can sort out with me once you get back (I know where you liveB)B) )
I hope that helps you

Could you let me know how close we are to the next GB for the Standard 45D4 plus matched coil. Mine is a bog standard 1800 in the LE Roadster. If not too far away from 5 I'll order a Kit 001 £60.00 via JULE. Regards RossB - Keith
