LED Bulbs in dash

Page 1 of 3Next

This weekend I fitted some LED bulbs as replacements for the dash filament bulbs plus map light and was most impressed with the results. I can see all my gauges at night now and they use a fraction of the power which will ease the load on the electrical system.

I used E10 size 100 degree 12 volt white LED bulbs off ebay, I've also ordered some smaller ones to replace the bulbs in the switches and indicator/beam dash lights.

Does anyone know how to replace the lights in the heater and air vent dials?

Hi Pete...post a pic when you can...

you have to remove the radio to then get to the bulbs at the heater controls:(

If it ain't broken don't try to fix it as if you do it will definitely break

I don't have a radio fitted so that sounds easy enough. Should both the temp and air vent controls have a bulb fitted? Does anyone know what sizes the rocker switch, brake/belt warning and indicator lights are?

I think the cigar lighter is a ba9 and the clock is a ba7 (both ordered and on the way)

both the heater contrals have bulbs/if you dont have a radio it might be easier to remoc=ve the 4 console screws and twist the whole unit around.

not sure about the bulbs but will check later for you

A few pics but not very good! The dash lights and map light

Wow. That looks like a good idea. It is a little bit fiddly to get the bulbs into the back of the heater etc dials due to the cables and connections at the back. You will have to take each dial off the front of the panel first to make things easier, but you'll soon realise what I mean when you get started on it.:)

I swapped my map light for an LED equivalent a few months ago (and renewed the cover, which had been gently cooked over the years 😉 ). Very pleased with the result. I really must do the dash lights as well.

Well I've done the whole lot now, apart from the ignition/alternator light which is meant to be left as a proper bulb. The indicator ones are way too bright so I'll try some green leds in there and see if it takes the edge off.

The cigar lighter one didn't make much difference but it's in like a weird side clip? How easy is it to take out the whole lighter unit out?

On a side note, I snapped a rear leaf spring so that is the next job 🙁

Hi Pete...Can you post a pic of the bulb you fitted?

This was the lighter kind:
