My L.E. 'O' series Project (LEO)

Quote from Colin on 14th January 2011, 7:07 pmIt rarely looks that tidy.
I don't know if this is of any interest but one of the problems I needed to overcome with the conversion was that the inlet plenum for the Monty was pointing in totally the wrong way and I personally didn't think it flowed that wall either. After scratching my head long and hard I came up with a solution using some rover V8 carb parts. The only problem was finding them these days. Anyway after a long hunt I came accross a chap called Jeff who has not only supplied them but polished & posted them for £30 all in. See the before and after photos. I wil be using him to sort my carb out when I get that far but if anyone else is interested in having something polished let me know and I'll let you have his email address.

I made the epic 550 mile round trip to collect the engine last weekend (I think that the cloud burst on the way back gave it a good wash down-it was under cover) and will post some pice as soon as I get time to make space for it in the garage/remove it from the trailer.
In two weeks I af off to Berkshire to collect the Turbo lump :D:D

Quote from Colin on 23rd January 2011, 4:44 pmAfter having picked it up a week ago I finally found time to make space in the garage and get it out of the trailer.
As you can see it has been standing for a while but still turns over easily and has the all important rear adapter plate from a sherpa so that the B's flywheel, clutch and gearbox will all bolt straight on

Now all I've got to do is pick up the turbo lump and then find room in the garage-which will be fun

Quote from Colin on 9th February 2011, 9:41 pmHaving collected the 'Monty' turbo engine last weekend and having had a closer look it looks like I may have to rethink the project. Now having looked at the turbo assembly without some severe remoulding of the drivers side inner wing and possibly chassis rail/steering plus moving the whole of the electrical system to the opposite side of the car-it won't fit. That is without the having to extensively cut the front cooler tray to fit and route an intercooler and all of the associated pipework.
Although I will trial fit the turbo lump to be sure of clearance problems if they are as suspected I will abort and just fit the standard twin carb unit which I should be able to get tuned to around 140bhp. When I set out with the idea of the turbo I had always wanted to fit it with the minimum od alteration to the standard shell so that it could aways be returned the B series lump relatively easily and with little in the way of signs of having been alterated.
I'll post some more pics once I've tried the trial fit.
