Replacing windshield MGB (roadster)
Quote from Rob-USLE on 6th September 2013, 1:45 pmTraveling back home from the bi-annual "Ardennen Meeting 2013" held in Beaufort, Luxembourg and organized by the MGCC Luxembourg we had the rather unpleasant experience that a stone on the highway (in Holland) hit the windshield badly.
It needs to be replaced, I know that replacing is a very nice job but luckely I'm insured so just pay a bit and not the whole amount.
However I want an "original" windshield with XXX Triplex marking in it, it seems that Pilkington has the rights for those and Moss UK is one of the leading outlets.
My question is has anyone ever ordered such an XXX Triplex windshield from Moss - or elsewhere - and are do they have really the same markings in the window as the original windshield ?
That because I have but good and bad experiences with products supplied by the Moss organization and want to avoid a new disapointment.

Quote from Rob-USLE on 6th September 2013, 2:35 pmHi Colin,
Yes, please do if you have the possibility. Its part no. HZA5415OE, clear not tinted (US-LE). I will order via my MG service dealer here in Rotterdam because they will not charge any freight on top of the costs for the windshield.
thx & rgds

Quote from Rob-USLE on 7th November 2013, 9:16 amAfter our trip to France with another B I had the garage installed the triplex XXX marked windshield as ordered by them from Moss.
As a matter of facts the marking is not exact the same, appears that there is a difference in DOT marking between UK and US market cars, but afterall it's a close as what the original was.
Picked up the car and drove it 23 miles and parked it in my whse were it sat for a week, just drove it in and out the whse because it was blocked the entrance because parked as first car behind the door.
Regretfully I noticed a vertical crack in the windshield all the way, think windshield is put in under to big tension.
Roof was not opened after leaving the garage after fixing the windshield, luckely I do have insurance which covers the costs of the windshield minus the first Euro 225.
Now the "peeeeep"- garage want to replace the windshield and expects me to claim AGAIN from insurance company, they will credit me for the part I have to pay myself.
I told them that they have to replace the windshield without any costs for my account and that I will not claim from my insurance for their mistake of not being able to replace a windshield.

I would make them pay Rob...They must have tensioned the glass badly in the frame before then fitting it to the car... Are they so called MG experts?

Had my roadster screen replaced a year ago and my insurer use the AA Windscreen service wh took one look at it and decided it was too complicated for them (not glued in to a solid body frame...) so they called Old School Windscreens near Chertsey Surrey UK who I took the car to. They gave me a lift home & picked me up afterwards and they even took the trouble to get new screen pillar to body rubber gaskets and they fitted these too.
Exceellent service all for a £50 insurance excess.Hope you get better service 2nd time around Rob 🙂
